With support from the Academia Sinica Ming–Qing Studies Promotion Committee, I organized the workshop “Introduction to the Paintings of Chosŏn Korea in One Day” through the Western Learning and China Research Group at the Institute of Modern History. Although Chosŏn Korea maintained close diplomatic and cultural ties with the Qing court, and many recent Qing studies have drawn on Korean envoys’ Yŏnhaengnok to illuminate Qing Beijing, Chinese art historians’ understanding of Korean art history remains limited. This one-day workshop was therefore designed as an introductory platform, inviting a new generation of Korean scholars to present on landscapes, figure painting, and court painting. Beyond the event itself, we created an online resource, featuring a “Treasury of Chosŏn Painting” and links to research websites, to extend the workshop’s impact and to encourage sustained engagement with Korean art history in the Sinophone academic world.
